SOA: Earth Angel

During the second Great War, pilot Xavier Shepard was shot down over enemy territory and dispatched to a prisoner of war camp well inside enemy lines. He was recognized quickly as an above average human specimen of physical supremacy. Being the early in the days of superior humans known as “Titan Men” quietly turning up all over the world, his captors recognized Shepard as a possible example of this emerging evolutionary phenomenon. Ethically dubious enemy scientists performed tests and experiments on Shepard. He was tortured and forced to fight other ally prisoners to discover the limits of his abilities. Later, due to his amazing quick healing potential, surgeries were done on Shepard including a secret process called “spicing” developed by a clandestine organization of outlaw scienceteers. His genes were altered and supplemented. After which, among other effects, Shepard developed bird like wings on his back. Upon the end of the war, and the liberation of these once secret camps, Xavier came home to a country uncertain and apprehensive of this new breed of human, now exposed to the world. Although his augmented and unique abilities had sinister origins; Shepard felt he was given his gifts by God almighty, and quickly took on the mantle of a new kind of hero known as the Earth Angel. His mission was to protect all humankind while spreading a message of peace, partnership, and patriotism to a new world full of distrust and fear of potential global tyranny.
